Investigator Use
Cutestat is a free web analytics and website information tool that provides publicly available data about websites including estimated traffic, Alexa rank, Google PageRank, server information, WHOIS data, DNS records, and SEO metrics. For OSINT investigators conducting website reconnaissance, Cutestat provides a consolidated snapshot of a target website's public-facing technical and traffic characteristics.
The platform's traffic estimates and ranking data help investigators understand the relative scale and reach of a target website. A website claiming large-scale operations but showing minimal estimated traffic and a very high (poor) Alexa rank presents an inconsistency worth investigating. Conversely, high traffic to an otherwise low-profile or suspicious site may indicate significant hidden activity.
Cutestat aggregates technical details including hosting provider, IP address, server software (where exposed by HTTP headers), name servers, and SSL certificate information into a single view. This technical fingerprint helps investigators quickly understand a site's infrastructure setup without running multiple individual queries.
The WHOIS data integration shows domain registration details including registrar, registration date, expiration date, and registrant information (where not privacy-protected). Domain age is a key OSINT signal: very recently registered domains combined with professional-looking content and claims of long business history indicate deceptive operations or newly launched scam sites.
Estimated social media presence metrics (where available) show approximate follower counts across platforms — useful for quickly gauging whether a site's claimed reach matches its actual social footprint. Sites claiming large audiences but showing negligible social media presence may be inflating their influence claims.
Cutestat complements deeper investigation tools: use it for rapid initial profiling alongside WHOIS lookup tools, BuiltWith for technology detection, and DNS Dumpster for subdomain enumeration. The consolidated view reduces the number of separate queries needed during initial reconnaissance.
Limitations include traffic estimate accuracy — third-party traffic estimates are inherently approximate and can be significantly wrong for low-traffic sites. The platform may also show outdated cached data for some fields. Always verify critical technical data (IP addresses, server info) with live DNS and WHOIS queries.
